Volunteers are the heart of the American Red Cross. They have raised their hands to help others, and they do it with compassion.
Our organization’s mission statement reads “The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.”
It is by the power of our volunteers that we can help those in need. American Red Cross volunteers are a force, making in indelible impact on communities around the country. Consistently, volunteers answer the call when help is needed, no matter the situation. Whatever the need, Red Cross volunteers work tirelessly to find solutions and offer care and hope to people who need support.
The part of the mission statement that reads “alleviates human suffering” may sound overwhelming, but not for our volunteers. They take that duty seriously. When volunteers encounter individuals and families in need of help, they not only bring a can-do attitude, but they also bring empathy. Along with the services they provide (shelter, meals, etc.), volunteers offer hugs and hope. The compassion is real.
As we recognize National Volunteer Week, we say THANK YOU to our volunteers. You make a difference each and every day, and we are forever grateful that you give your time to “prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies.”
