Meet Dylan. He is enthusiastic and engaging - two personality traits that fit well with his role as a donor recruitment account manager for the Red Cross. It's his job to build relationships in his territory around Lincoln, Nebraska, to encourage area residents to host blood drives and donate blood. Learn more about his career with the Red Cross, what motivates him and moments that stick with him.

Q: Could you explain what your title means and take us through your workday, or what projects you work on?

A: My new title is Donor Recruitment Account Manager II. I am responsible for a territory with business, organization and community blood drives, and I work directly with local blood program leaders to coordinate and execute these drives on a regular rotation. We work together to come up with ways to keep our donors coming back as often as possible to ensure that we meet the blood collection needs for our hospital partners to take care of our vulnerable populations and those who experience trauma events.

Q: How long have you been with the Red Cross? Is this your first position with the Red Cross? If not, what was it?

A: I started full-time with the Red Cross in May of 2023 and was a volunteer in Lincoln with the First Aid Services Team before that, helping out at concerts and shows at Pinnacle Bank Arena and the Lied Center and providing first aid support.

Q: What do you like about your work?

A: I love working out in the community with our coordinators and donors, and forming long-term partnerships.

Q: What do you like to listen to during the workday?

A: If I happen to be home or driving, I’m a big music fan. I’m not big on listening to podcasts or books as I find those distracting to my work.

Q: In what part of the region are you located, and what do you enjoy about your community?

A: I’m based out of Lincoln, and my territory is half of Lincoln south, about 90 minutes, and then out to Nebraska City and circling up to Plattsmouth.

Q: How do you spend your time when you aren’t working?

A: I’ve been married for 10 years and have an 8-year-old daughter, and two dogs. Most of my time is spent with them.

Q: What has most surprised you while working for the Red Cross?

A: Having been a long-time donor, I never realized how challenging it can be to bring in new donors and keep them engaged.

Q: What is a Red Cross moment that sticks with you?

A: Being recognized as the Core Values Award winner for my team in 2024 was incredibly humbling, and hearing some of the reasons why our staff and donors donate blood sticks with me. I had a brain aneurysm when I was 28, so when I was asked to donate at a work blood drive years ago, I felt the need to step up and help.
